Kabwe Warriors goalkeeper Mangani Banda has expressed deep gratitude after receiving another national team call-up as Zambia prepares for two international friendlies against South Africa and Namibia.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper, who has been in excellent form in the MTN Super League, said he remains humbled by the opportunity to don national colours again, emphasizing that consistency, hard work, and faith in God have been key to his success.
“I never stopped working hard, and I thank God for this opportunity to represent my country again,” Banda said. “It’s always an honour to wear the national colours. Every call-up is a reminder that perseverance and faith always pay off.”
Banda has been a key pillar for Kabwe Warriors, registering an impressive seven clean sheets in nine games this season. His leadership, quick reflexes, and strong command in goal have made him one of the most consistent performers in the league.
“The hard work I put in at club level is paying off, but I know there’s still more to achieve. I’m grateful to my coaches and teammates at Kabwe Warriors for pushing me every day to get better,” he added.
The former U-20 AFCON-winning goalkeeper, who helped Zambia lift the 2017 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, said the upcoming friendlies will play a vital role in sharpening the squad ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to kick off in December.
“These two friendlies are very important because they help us build momentum and assess ourselves before AFCON,” Banda explained. “The technical team has been emphasizing focus and unity, and everyone in camp is determined to make these games count.”
He also highlighted the importance of competition within the squad, saying it motivates every player to raise their performance level.
“Every player wants to prove themselves, and that competition makes us stronger. I’m ready to give my level best whenever I’m on the pitch,” Banda said confidently.
The Kabwe Warriors goalkeeper also took time to appreciate fans for their continued support through thick and thin.
“I want to thank all the fans who believe in me and continue showing love even during difficult times. Your support keeps me going. I promise to keep working hard and make you proud,” he said.
Zambia will take on South Africa on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth before facing Namibia in another friendly match as part of their final preparations for AFCON.
Mangani Banda’s inclusion in the national team is not only a reward for his remarkable form but also a reflection of his unwavering commitment and professionalism. As the Chipolopolo intensify preparations for AFCON 2025, Banda’s experience and composure will be crucial in Zambia’s push to reclaim continental glory.
