Kelvin Kapumbu Ruled Out of Zambia vs. Uganda Friendly Due to Injury

Holding midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu will be sidelined for the upcoming international friendly match between Zambia and Uganda due to a hamstring injury. The match, scheduled as part of the October FIFA International break, is set to be played in Dubai.

Kapumbu sustained his hamstring injury during Zambia’s recent match against Egypt, which ended in a 1-0 loss for Zambia. The injury occurred in the 92nd minute, and Kapumbu had to be replaced by Larry Bwalya. The injury diagnosis is a hamstring strain, necessitating a period of rest and recovery.

The team’s doctor, Wesley Ngongo, mentioned that Kapumbu’s progress would be monitored daily, and once he begins light training, the intensity will gradually increase. Unfortunately, he won’t be available for the upcoming match.

On a more positive note, experienced defender Stoppila Sunzu has resumed light training, and his progress has been promising without any recurring symptoms. He is expected to be available for selection in the upcoming game.

Zambia’s coach, Avram Grant, views these friendlies as essential for the team’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, making the recovery of players like Sunzu crucial for the team’s success.
