Zambian Midfielder Kelvin Kampamba Safe in Libya After Flight Disruption
Zambian international footballer Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba is safe and awaiting evacuation from Libya after security-related disruptions led to the cancellation of his initial flight, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has confirmed.
Kampamba, who plies his trade in Libya, was initially scheduled to leave the country on Friday, 16th May 2025, via a flight routed through Istanbul. However, escalating instability in some regions of Libya has affected commercial airline schedules, causing his trip to be postponed.
“Mr. Kampamba was scheduled to leave Libya on Friday, 16th May 2025. However, his flight, originally booked via Istanbul, was cancelled due to the ongoing instability in parts of Libya,” stated Mr. Nchimunya Bobby Ng’andu, Principal Public Relations Officer at the Ministry.
Zambian Embassy in Egypt Intervenes to Secure Safe Passage
Following the cancellation, the Zambian Embassy in Egypt has taken swift action to coordinate Kampamba’s evacuation. According to the Ministry’s statement, an alternative flight has been arranged for Monday, 19th May 2025, departing from Misrata.
“The Embassy is also exploring the possibility of an earlier departure, depending on prevailing security conditions,” read the official statement.
The Ministry emphasized that Kampamba remains safe and is currently in a secure location. Efforts are ongoing to ensure his timely and safe return to Zambia.

“The Ministry is in constant communication with the Embassy, which has assured Honourable Elvis C. Nkandu, MP, Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, that Mr. Kampamba is safe,” said Ng’andu.
Government Monitoring Situation Closely
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to monitoring the situation as events unfold and promised to keep the public updated. Officials have assured Zambians that all necessary precautions are being taken to guarantee Kampamba’s well-being.
