Kampamba Remains in Libya as Training Resumes at Al Madina

Kelvin Kampamba Returns to Training in Libya After Tripoli Clashes

Zambian midfielder Kelvin Kampamba has resumed training with his Libyan club Al Madina SC following a temporary suspension caused by violent clashes in the capital city, Tripoli. The Chipolopolo star was among several players instructed to remain indoors as a precaution after unrest broke out last week.

According to The Associated Press, tensions escalated following the killing of a senior militia leader, al-Kikli—commander of the Stability Support Authority (SSA)—by a rival faction. The fighting led to heightened insecurity across Tripoli, forcing clubs like Al Madina to halt football activities temporarily.

Club President Assures Players Amid Return to Training

After a tense week of uncertainty, Al Madina officially resumed training on Monday, sharing the update on their official Facebook page. “The whales are back! After a pause and vacation, the City team returned to practice from its fortress in the heart of the vibrant,” the club posted.

On Tuesday, club president Abdul Majeed Al-Malikata visited the team at training and delivered a motivational speech to boost morale. “Snapshots from President Dr Abdul Majeed Al-Malikata’s visit for the first team football exercises… and a motivational speech for the players in a positive atmosphere,” the club reported.

During his address, Al-Malikata reassured the players of their safety, encouraging them to stay focused and give their best on the pitch. He expressed gratitude for their cooperation and understanding throughout the suspension period.

Evacuation Plans Shelved as Kampamba Stays in Libya

The update means that Kampamba, who had raised a distress call to Zambian authorities last week, will now remain in Libya. His initial request prompted the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts in Zambia to begin coordinating a potential evacuation plan for the former Nkana FC midfielder.

However, the resumption of normal activities at Al Madina has paused those plans for now. The Zambian government was closely monitoring the situation to ensure the player’s safety abroad.

Kampamba’s contract with Al Madina is set to expire at the end of the current season, and his long-term future remains unclear amid the volatile security situation in Libya.

What’s Next for Kelvin Kampamba?

With training back on track and the club showing signs of stabilizing, Kampamba will now shift focus to finishing the season strongly. His presence in the squad is seen as crucial as Al Madina continues its domestic campaign in the Libyan Premier League.

For Zambia fans, the hope is that the midfielder remains safe and continues to represent the nation well while plans for the next transfer window unfold.
