Veteran Zambian international defender Kabaso Chongo has officially parted ways with Kabwe Warriors after buying out the remainder of his contract. The club confirmed his departure, paving the way for the experienced defender to join a new team ahead of the upcoming 2025/2026 MTN Super League season.
Chongo Buys Out Kabwe Warriors Contract
Chongo, who signed a two-year deal with the Magnificent People’s Team in February 2024 after leaving TP Mazembe, has decided to terminate his contract early. This makes him a free agent, with several top Zambian clubs reportedly expressing interest.
ZESCO United and Nkana FC Interested
According to sources close to the player, CAF Confederation Cup contenders ZESCO United and 13-time Super League champions Nkana FC are leading the race to secure Chongo’s signature. Both clubs are said to be keen on bolstering their defensive lines with a seasoned figure who brings continental pedigree and leadership.
Decorated Career at TP Mazembe
Kabaso Chongo enjoyed a glittering career at TP Mazembe, where he won a total of eight trophies:
-
🏆 CAF Champions League (2015)
-
🏆 CAF Confederation Cup (2016, 2017)
-
🏆 5 DR Congo Ligue 1 titles
His time in Lubumbashi made him one of the most successful Zambian defenders on the continent.
What’s Next for Chongo?
As Kabwe Warriors prepare for a technical and squad overhaul, Chongo’s exit marks yet another high-profile departure from the club. Meanwhile, the defender is expected to make a decision on his next destination before the new campaign kicks off
