Hachipuka Frustrated as Green Eagles Struggle Continues

Hachipuka Frustrated as Green Eagles Struggle Continues

Green Eagles’ Winless Streak Extends to 10 as Hachipuka Laments Painful Draw

Green Eagles‘ struggles in the MTN Super League continued on Thursday as they extended their winless run to 10 matches following a 1-1 draw against Red Arrows at Independence Stadium in Choma. Despite avoiding defeat against the defending champions, coach Kebby Hachipuka admitted that the result was a bitter pill to swallow as his side remains just two points above the relegation zone with six matches left to play.

Hachipuka Frustrated Despite Positive Performance

Green Eagles have not won a match since December 21 last year, and their latest draw did little to ease pressure on the club. Hachipuka acknowledged his team’s efforts but lamented their failure to capitalize on home advantage.

“I think it’s a painful draw in that we were playing at home, but according to the performance that the guys have shown, I think it was a good performance for me despite drawing,” said Hachipuka.

With 33 points, Eagles remain 12th on the log, only two points clear of the drop zone. However, the coach remains optimistic that his side will recover, though he admitted that their defensive vulnerabilities remain a major concern.

“We still have six games, which is 18 points. We will pull through. The major problem is that we are conceding in every game, so we need to work on the defenders.”

“We Can’t Be Relegated” – Hachipuka

Despite the precarious position, Hachipuka dismissed fears of relegation, insisting that Green Eagles are too big a club to go down.

“No, we can’t. Green Eagles is a big team. It’s only that we are passing through a bad patch, but in the last six games, we will do better.”

Green Eagles fought back to earn a point after Simon Mulenga scored in the second half to cancel out Ackim Mumba’s first-half goal for Red Arrows. Encouragingly for Hachipuka, his side has now scored in their last four games, something he believes they can build on.

“I understand we have not been winning, and we have been lacking goals, but now we have started scoring. This means we need to tighten our defense because in the past four games, despite losing, we have been managing to score first. That means we are not doing well defensively.”

Relegation Battle Heating Up

With six matches to go, Green Eagles need to find solutions fast if they are to avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation battle. Their next fixtures will be crucial in determining whether they secure another season in the MTN Super League or face a nerve-wracking battle for survival.
