Six Games, No Wins: Green Eagles Drop to 10th in MTN Super League
Green Eagles’ struggles in front of goal continued as they extended their winless streak to six games following a 1-0 defeat to Nkana in Week 24 of the MTN Super League. The Choma-based side has now failed to score in their last four matches, a worrying trend that coach Kebby Hachipuka attributes to poor finishing from his strikers.
Green Eagles Drop to 10th After Nkana Defeat
The loss against Nkana, sealed by a 45th-minute strike from Clement Mwape, saw Green Eagles drop to 10th place with 31 points from 24 matches. The team has only managed to secure seven wins this season, drawing ten and losing seven. Notably, their goal difference remains neutral, having scored 21 goals and conceded 21.
However, their recent form paints a bleak picture—Green Eagles have collected just three points from their last six matches, losing 12 points in the process. Their attacking struggles have been evident, with only one goal scored in their last five outings.
Hachipuka Frustrated by Poor Finishing
Reacting to the defeat, Hachipuka expressed his disappointment, particularly in the team’s inability to convert chances.
“It is a painful defeat; indeed, I think we lost concentration in the last 10 minutes. We just have to blame ourselves; we didn’t utilize the chances we created. We lost it in the first half; we had three clear chances, but we couldn’t put the ball behind the net,” he said.
The Green Eagles coach emphasized the need for his strikers to be more clinical, given the alarming goal drought.
“We need to work on our strikers because we have gone five games and they only managed to score one goal, which is worrying,” he added.
Next Fixture: Eagles Eye Redemption Against Atlético Lusaka
With their poor form threatening to derail their season, Green Eagles will look to bounce back when they host Atlético Lusaka at Choma Independence Stadium on Saturday in a crucial Week 25 fixture. A victory would not only boost their standing but also restore confidence in their attack.
