Kabwe Warriors finally broke their winless run in the MTN Super League after edging Nkana FC 1-0 in a tense Week 4 clash at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium. Head coach George Chilufya credited the victory to “hard work,” as his side picked up their first three points of the campaign against one of Zambia’s title hopefuls.
Warriors Break Goal Drought
Prior to this match, Warriors had endured three consecutive goalless draws, leaving fans frustrated at the lack of cutting edge in attack. But on Saturday, Francis Banda’s goal in the 57th minute proved decisive, giving the Magnificent Warriors both their first goal and first win of the season.
The result lifts Kabwe Warriors to eighth on the table with six points, having drawn three and now secured their first win of the campaign.
Chilufya: “We Needed That Goal”
Coach George Chilufya, facing his former club Nkana, expressed relief after finally securing victory.
“It is something that we have been looking forward to. Today we got one goal, which we needed, and three points in our bag,” he said.
Chilufya added that scoring first was key to easing the pressure on his side after a frustrating start to the season.
Missed Chances Against Nkana
While pleased with the result, Chilufya admitted his team could have been more clinical.
“We should have wrapped up the game in the first half; we created a lot of chances, but when you have not won from the beginning of the league, patience eludes you,” he noted.
The Warriors’ resilience, however, denied Nkana any way back, handing the 13-time league champions their first defeat of the 2025/26 season.
Conclusion
With this win, Kabwe Warriors climb to eighth place on the log and gain momentum as they look to build on their unbeaten start. For Nkana, the defeat serves as an early warning in their title push.
