Copper Queens midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo has embarked on a new chapter in her career by joining the FAZ Women’s Super Division defending champions, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club. The announcement of her move was made on social media by both the club and the player, shortly before Buffaloes’ week 17 encounter against ZISD.

Katongo’s transition to the Zambia army-sponsored outfit comes after the conclusion of her contract at ZISD earlier this month. Making her debut on Sunday, Katongo showcased her talents by playing the full 90 minutes in Buffaloes’ impressive 3-1 victory over ZISD. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the build-up to Buffaloes’ third goal, scored by Vanessa Chikupira.

At just 21 years old, Katongo has already established herself as a key member of the Copper Queens, Zambia’s national women’s team. Her addition is expected to further bolster the already formidable Green Buffaloes side.

Katongo’s impressive track record includes standout performances at the 2022 WAFCON, where she played a crucial role in Zambia’s bronze medal triumph. Her memorable long-range strike against Nigeria in the third and fourth playoff match contributed to Zambia’s historic achievement.

A graduate of the Zambia U-20 women’s national team, Katongo has tasted success at the regional level, winning the COSAFA Women’s Championship in 2022. She also played a significant role in securing silver for Zambia in the same tournament the following year, earning two Player of the Match awards along the way.

As Katongo begins this new chapter of her career with Green Buffaloes, her talent, dedication, and experience are poised to make a significant impact on the team’s quest for continued success in domestic and international competitions.
