Elijah Tana warns Nkana against complacency after Nchanga win

Nkana FC reclaimed top spot in Stream A of the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional Season after securing a 2-0 victory over Nchanga Rangers at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe on Sunday, extending their winning run to three consecutive matches.

Kalampa moved to nine points from three games, with FC MUZA dropping to second place on seven points. Lazarous Kambole and Patrick Gondwe scored in the first half to give Nkana another important victory, while Nchanga Rangers continued their difficult start to the campaign, remaining without a win in their opening three league fixtures.

Kambole opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before Gondwe doubled Nkana’s advantage in the 44th minute, giving the hosts a comfortable lead at the break. The result strengthened Nkana’s position at the summit of Stream A as they continued their perfect start to the transitional campaign.

Speaking after the match, Nkana head coach Elijah Tana was pleased with the result but insisted that his players must remain focused and avoid becoming complacent despite their strong run.

“I’m happy with the result, but I always say we won’t relax. We’ll be pushing until the end of the league,” Tana said.

Meanwhile, Nchanga Rangers first assistant coach Israel Mwanza attributed the defeat to his side’s slow start and inability to convert their chances into goals. He acknowledged that the team had struggled to find its rhythm against an Nkana side that took advantage of its opportunities.

“This game, it was very, very intense. We started at a low pace,” Mwanza said.

Mwanza also admitted that pressure was mounting on the technical bench as Nchanga Rangers searched for their first victory of the campaign.

“We are really under pressure, but we have to fight to come out of this situation,” he said.

Nkana will now turn their attention to a potentially challenging Week Five encounter against Konkola Blades, who are coached by their former mentor Bestone Chambeshi. Konkola Blades suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Kansanshi Dynamos on Saturday and will be looking to respond when they face the league leaders.

Elsewhere, defending champions Power Dynamos returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Trident FC at Arthur Davies Stadium. Joshua Mutale scored in the ninth minute before Sam Sikasote equalised for Trident in the 31st minute. Andy Boyeli then restored Power’s advantage in the 50th minute to secure all three points for the champions.

In Stream B, Chirundu United recorded a historic first victory of the campaign after beating Mutondo Stars 3-0. Andrew Simumba opened the scoring in the 12th minute, before Ackson Mphala added a second in the 74th minute. Christopher Zulu completed the scoring in the 88th minute to seal maximum points for the Border Boys.

At Trade Fair Ground, ZESCO United were held to a goalless draw by Mighty Mufulira Wanderers, while Green Buffaloes and Nkwazi also shared the points after a 0-0 draw at Edwin Imboela Stadium in a Lusaka derby.

With three consecutive victories, Nkana have established themselves as the early pace-setters in Stream A. However, Tana’s message remains clear: the team must maintain its focus and consistency as the transitional league campaign progresses.
