The Zambia U17 Women’s National Team, known as the Copper Princesses, put on a ruthless display in preparation for their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Tanzania, thrashing Morepeace Football Club 10-1 in a warm-up match at Toyota Arena.

The dominant performance showcased the Copper Princesses’ attacking prowess, with Sharon Siakaloba and Grace Phiri each bagging a brace, while six other players got on the scoresheet. The emphatic victory boosts the team’s confidence ahead of their crucial first-leg encounter against Tanzania on Sunday, 9 March, at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

Dominant Display as Copper Princesses Show No Mercy

The warm-up match saw Carol Kanyemba’s side take complete control from the start, showing sharp attacking movements and clinical finishing. Sharon Siakaloba and Grace Phiri led the charge with two goals apiece, while Ruth Mukoma, Lillian Mwenda, Lweendo Hanongo, Masela Sekeseke, Leah Mulenga, and Pervis Kangalangala also got on the scoresheet.

Morepeace Football Club, a Lusaka Province Division One side, managed to grab a first-half consolation through Natasha Makina, but they had no response to the relentless Zambian attack. The Copper Princesses’ fluid attacking football and high pressing overwhelmed their opponents, sending a strong signal ahead of their clash with Tanzania.

The team’s goal-scoring efficiency, tactical discipline, and defensive shape were all put to the test, providing valuable insights before the high-stakes encounter in Dar es Salaam.

With the first leg set for Sunday, 9 March, and the return fixture scheduled for Saturday, 15 March, at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Zambia will be looking to carry this momentum into their qualifier and secure a spot in the final qualification round.

Road to the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup

The winner of the two-legged tie between Zambia and Tanzania will advance to the third and final qualification round, where they will face either Benin or DR Congo for a place at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. The tournament is set to take place from 17 October to 8 November 2025, and Zambia will be eager to make their mark on the global stage.

The Copper Princesses have shown their potential, but the real test begins against Tanzania, where they will need to replicate their attacking efficiency and defensive solidity to progress further in the qualifiers.
