Chipolopolo Leap Seven Spots in FIFA Rankings

The Chipolopolo boys have made significant progress in the latest FIFA rankings, climbing seven places to 87th globally and 18th in Africa. This marks a rewarding step for Zambia, reflecting their recent success on the pitch.

The rankings, released today by FIFA, highlight Zambia’s rise on the back of two impressive victories in the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Chipolopolo secured a 1-0 victory over African champions Côte d’Ivoire and followed it with a commanding 2-0 win against Sierra Leone, finishing as table toppers in Group G and securing their place at the upcoming AFCON.

While Zambia celebrates its progress, the rankings also provide insight into their competition:

Côte d’Ivoire, despite their loss to Zambia, sit 6th in Africa and 46th globally.
Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked team, holding 14th place globally.
Tanzania, Zambia’s next opponent in the Group E FIFA World Cup qualifiers, is ranked 106th, with Niger trailing at 122nd.
Zambia’s upward trajectory in the rankings is a testament to the team’s resilience and tactical growth under coach Avram Grant. As they prepare for the USA/Canada/Mexico FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Chipolopolo will look to build on this momentum and assert themselves further on the global stage.

With AFCON 2025 and World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, Zambia’s rise in the rankings is a positive sign of what could be a golden era for the team. The nation rallies behind its beloved team, hoping for continued success and a strong showing in upcoming international competitions.
