BB11 Shortlisted for BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year Award

Copper Queens captain and Orlando Pride forward, Barbra Banda, has been nominated for the prestigious BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024 award. Banda, the only African player on the final shortlist, joins an elite group of footballers including Aitana Bonmati, Naomi Girma, Caroline Graham-Hansen, and Sophia Smith.

Banda’s nomination highlights her outstanding performances this season, where she has been instrumental in leading Orlando Pride to win the NWSL Shield. She will be aiming to become the second African player to win the award, following in the footsteps of Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala, who won the inaugural prize in 2015.

Fans across the globe can cast their vote via the BBC Sport website before voting closes at 09:00 GMT on Monday, 28 October 2024. The winner will be revealed on Tuesday, 26 November on BBC World Service, as well as on the BBC Sport website and app.
