Barbra Banda Powers Orlando Pride to Dramatic 3-2 Comeback

Barbra Banda Inspires Stunning Orlando Pride Comeback Victory Over Angel City

In a thrilling encounter at the Inter&Co Stadium, Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda was once again the hero for Orlando Pride, scoring the crucial equaliser as her side overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Angel City 3-2.

Banda, who started alongside fellow Zambian star Prisca Chilufya, showcased her trademark resilience and sharpness. It marked Chilufya’s first start for the Pride since her arrival, highlighting a proud moment for Zambian football on the American stage.

However, it was a nightmare start for the Pride, with Riley Tiernan opening the scoring just nine minutes in, slotting a low shot past Ana Morehouse at the near post. Matters worsened just before the interval when Katie Zelem doubled Angel City’s advantage, hammering home after a poorly cleared corner.

Seb Hines’ team, though, roared back into life in the second half. Brazilian legend Marta sparked the comeback, latching onto a precise cross from Oihane and volleying home to breathe life into the Pride’s performance.

Moments later, Barbra Banda made her presence felt. Latching onto a delightful cross from Carson Pickett, Banda’s deft header ricocheted off the post and into the net, drawing the sides level at 2-2. The Pride completely seized momentum, with both Oihane and Ally Watt narrowly missing chances to extend the lead.

As the match edged into stoppage time, Carson Pickett delivered another teasing ball into the box. Under pressure, M.A. Vignola inadvertently diverted the ball past her own keeper Angelina Anderson, gifting Orlando Pride their first lead of the night in dramatic fashion.

There was also a cameo appearance for Zambian forward Grace Chanda, who came off the bench in the 72nd minute, marking her second outing for the Pride this season.

Barbra Banda’s goal brings her tally to four goals and one assist so far this campaign, further cementing her growing influence in the NWSL. Meanwhile, Prisca Chilufya continues to settle into the squad, having now featured in six matches.

Orlando Pride now shift their attention to a challenging trip to face Portland Thorns at Providence Park. Kick-off is scheduled for Saturday, 3 May, at 7:30 p.m. ET (Sunday, 01:30 CAT).
