APR FC kicked off the Inkera Y’Abahizi tournament with a commanding 2-0 win over Zambia’s Power Dynamos at Amahoro International Stadium.
The much-anticipated clash lived up to its billing, as both sides demonstrated tactical discipline and attacking intent. In the opening half, Power Dynamos had promising moments, with Linos Makwaza narrowly missing the target and winger Austin Muwowo forcing APR’s defense to scramble with a dangerous curling set piece. Despite these opportunities, neither side managed to find the breakthrough before halftime.
Second-Half Brilliance from APR FC
The second half shifted decisively in favor of the Rwandan giants. Djibril Aouttara Sheick broke the deadlock with a well-placed strike following a perfectly executed set piece from Ruboneka JBosco. Just moments later, Aouttara punished a defensive lapse from Muwowo, doubling APR’s advantage and silencing the Power Dynamos faithful in Kigali.
The quick-fire goals rattled the Zambian champions, who struggled to regain control as APR pressed with confidence, using their home advantage effectively.
Mutapa Reflects on Power Dynamos’ Performance
Despite the defeat, Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa remained optimistic in his post-match remarks. He noted the positives in his team’s performance, stressing that the match served as valuable preparation for both the MTN Super League, which kicked off on August 16, 2025, and the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
“This was an important game for us, not just for the result but for the lessons it provided,” Mutapa said. “We saw areas to improve and gained experience that will be crucial in the league and continental football.”
Looking Ahead
Power Dynamos will shift their focus back to the domestic league as they continue their title defense. Meanwhile, APR FC’s victory has set the tone for the Inkera Y’Abahizi tournament, strengthening their status as favorites on home soil.
With continental competition looming, both teams will be keen to sharpen their form and tactics in the weeks ahead.
