Ivorian striker Freddy Michael Kouablan has completed a move to Egyptian Premier League side Ceramica Cleopatra FC, bringing his spell with Zesco United to an end as the Ndola giants prepare for changes during the ongoing transfer window.
Free Transfer to Egypt
Kouablan joins Ceramica Cleopatra as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with nine-time MTN Super League champions Zesco United. His departure is expected to prompt Zesco to move swiftly in the market as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the new phase of the season.
Journey Back to Zambia
The striker returned to Zambian football after an underwhelming spell with Tanzanian giants Simba SC, who had signed him from Green Eagles FC.
Kouablan’s move to Simba came on the back of a sensational goal-scoring run in the 2023/24 season, where he netted 14 goals in just half a season for Green Eagles, establishing himself as one of the most feared forwards in the MTN Super League at the time.
Despite the high expectations, he struggled to secure a regular starting role in Tanzania, leading to his return to Zambia and subsequent move to Zesco United.
Time at Zesco United
During his stint with Zesco, Kouablan featured in domestic league matches and CAF interclub competitions, contributing with important goals and valuable experience as the Ndola-based side competed on multiple fronts.
While his time at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium did not fully replicate his prolific Green Eagles form, the Ivorian remained a reliable attacking option within the squad.
New Challenge in North Africa
Kouablan’s move to Ceramica Cleopatra FC now presents a fresh opportunity to revive his career in one of Africa’s most competitive leagues. The Egyptian side continues to strengthen their squad as they push for a strong finish in both league and cup competitions.
The transfer also underlines the growing pathway from the MTN Super League to top North African leagues.
Conclusion
Freddy Kouablan’s switch to Ceramica Cleopatra marks the next chapter in a career that has already seen him shine in Zambia and test himself in Tanzania. All eyes will now be on how the Ivorian striker adapts to the demands of Egyptian football.
