AFCON 2025 Attracts Record European Broadcast Interest

By Bola Yapa Zed Sports Desk | 19th December 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continues to grow in global stature after securing a record number of European broadcast agreements for the 2025 tournament in Morocco. CAF has sealed 20 media rights partnerships covering more than 30 European territories, marking the most expansive European broadcast footprint in the competition’s history.

This unprecedented level of coverage reflects the rising commercial value and global appeal of AFCON, as European audiences increasingly embrace African football’s quality, competitiveness, and star power. The expanded broadcast reach is also expected to significantly benefit the African diaspora across Europe, ensuring wider access to all 52 matches of the tournament.

Key European Broadcasters Confirmed for AFCON Morocco 2025

Among the landmark agreements is a deal with Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, which will air all 52 matches on free-to-air television, a major boost for visibility in one of Europe’s biggest football markets. Spain’s Movistar has also come on board in a new partnership, while ERT will provide free-to-air coverage in Greece, and VGTV will broadcast the tournament in Norway for the first time.

CAF highlighted that the Spanish broadcast deal is particularly significant due to Spain’s large Moroccan diaspora and the strong historical links between Spanish football audiences and AFCON. These strategic partnerships are expected to deliver strong viewership numbers and deepen the tournament’s footprint in Europe.

CAF Targets Global Growth and Commercial Expansion

Established broadcasters including Sport Italia, Ziggo, and SportDigital will continue their coverage across Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, regions that have consistently delivered strong AFCON viewership. CAF says these agreements align with its broader strategy to grow the reach, visibility, and commercial value of African football worldwide.

With AFCON Morocco 2025 set to attract record global audiences, CAF believes the expanded European broadcast network will further elevate the tournament’s profile, enhance sponsor value, and position AFCON as one of the most watched international football competitions outside the World Cup.
