Thereβs an explosion of midfield talent in the Zambia National Team at present. Joshua Mutale will rightfully claim his stake at Chipolopoloβs engine.
Straight from the Power Dynamos School of Soccer Excellence that was once graced by the incredibly gifted Alex βComputerβ Chola, the inspirational Wisdom βSummerbeeβ Chansa, the ball wizard, Lucky βMuchofeβ Msiska and most recently the magical Mukuka βDecoβ Mulenga, in comes Joshua Mutale.
As a teenage sensation, Joshua Mutale graduated from the highly potent Powerβs developmental side, Young Power. Mutale was a revelation of the Zambian Super Division in the recently ended 2021/2022 season.
Slick, diminutive, quick nimble feet with an amazing work rate in the middle of the pack, Mutale can play on either side of the wing but thrives in central midfield owing to his playmaking abilities. The young midfielder is effective with both feet.
I have had the privilege of interviewing a couple of former Zambia international attacking midfielders about Mutaleβs abilities and they rate him highly. (These are former midfielders I respect highly in football).
Mutale thoroughly deserves the man-of-the-match award in this eveningβs COSAFA triumph that has handed Zambia itβs sixth title following a one nil victory over Namibia courtesy of Abraham Kangwandaβs cracker of a goal.
With discipline and top notch managers, Mutale will be destined for greatness.
As the Chipolopolo faithful look ahead to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers to be hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States of America, Zambiaβs attacking midfield comprising of Enock Mwepu, Klings Kangwa, Patrick Gondwe, Joshua Mutale, Emmanuel Banda, Clatous Chota Chama and Larry Bwalya will be a real threat to opposing teams.
