The 2022 National Sports Awards were a celebration of Zambia’s outstanding sporting talent and dedication. From record-breaking performances to inspirational coaching and administration, the winners of these awards showcased the best of what Zambian sports has to offer.
One of the most inspiring categories was the Sports Woman of the Year Differently Abled, which was won by Ivy Chanda for her exceptional performance at the Paralympics. Similarly, Kaumba Kakoma won Sports Man of the Year Differently Abled for his impressive achievements in Deaf Sports.
The Coaches of the Year, Florence Mwila and Douglas Kalembo, were recognized for their incredible contributions to their respective sports. Meanwhile, Godfrey Dube and Memory Malisawa won Sports Journalist of the Year for print and electronic media, respectively.
The Best Administrator of the Year award went to Tesfa Shinkombwe, who has played a crucial role in the success of the Zambia Pool Union. In the team categories, Copper Queens and Motor-cross were named Team of the Year for female and male, respectively.
The Young Sports Man and Woman of the Year, William C. Chinzewe and Jade Phiri, showed that the future of Zambian sports is bright. Muzala Samukonga and Grace Chanda were crowned Sports Man and Woman of the Year for their outstanding performances in athletics and football.
The Federation of the Year went to the Zambia Pool Union, while the late Dr. Joseph Kabungo received the Minister’s Award posthumously. Enock Mwepu was awarded the President’s Award, and MTN Zambia received the Medal of Honour.
