ZPL: National League Week 9 Recap
Week 9 of the ZPL National League brought excitement and surprises as the standings shifted after some crucial results. Teams at the top reinforced their positions, while those in the relegation zone faced growing concerns.
Kafue Celtic 0-1 Mpulungu Harbour
Mpulungu Harbour continued their impressive run with a narrow 1-0 win over Kafue Celtic, thanks to Martin Chambala’s goal. This victory placed them third in the table, moving them closer to the promotion spots.
Trident 0-1 Mines United
Mines United secured an important 1-0 win against Trident, with Nicholas Mulilo finding the net. Despite this, Mines United remain in a mid-table position, tied on points with Prison Leopards and Jumulo but ranked below them based on goal difference. Trident, on the other hand, remained further down in 14th position.
Aguila Stars 1-1 Konkola Blades
Konkola Blades maintained their top spot with a 1-1 draw against Aguila Stars. Harrison Lungu scored for Aguila, but Francis Mubanga equalized for the league leaders, ensuring they remained unbeaten at the top with 23 points.
Young Green Buffaloes 2-1 Kafue Eagles
Nerbert Musamba and Joseph Chandwila scored to give Young Green Buffaloes a crucial 2-1 win over Kafue Eagles. Joseph Phiri’s goal for Kafue Eagles wasn’t enough, as they remained in the relegation zone, while Young GBFC moved closer to safety.
Leopards Hill 1-0 Prison Leopards
Lukwembe Chisenga’s goal was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Leopards Hill over Prison Leopards. This win lifted Leopards Hill out of immediate relegation danger, while Prison Leopards missed a chance to close the gap on the top teams.
Chipata United 0-1 Kansanshi Dynamos
Kansanshi Dynamos continued their push for the top spot, earning a narrow 1-0 victory against Chipata United. Kalonji Mwepu’s goal kept Kansanshi in second place, three points behind leaders Konkola Blades, while Chipata stayed at the bottom of the table.
Riverplate 2-1 Ndola United
Riverplate secured a valuable 2-1 win over Ndola United, with goals from Benson Mwanza and Golden Zansi. Ndola United’s Benson Mulenga managed a goal, but Riverplate took all three points, moving them to the middle of the standings.
Chirundu United 0-0 Jumulo
Chirundu United and Jumulo played out a goalless draw, which left both teams tied in points in the middle of the standings. Despite the draw, Jumulo remained in fifth place based on goal difference.
Chambishi 0-0 Kitwe United
In another goalless draw, Chambishi and Kitwe United shared the points, leaving both teams still struggling in the lower half of the table. Kitwe United remained in 12th place, while Chambishi stayed just above them.
Week 9 results continued to intensify both the promotion and relegation battles. Konkola Blades held onto their top spot despite being held to a draw, while Kansanshi Dynamos and Mpulungu Harbour kept the pressure on with important victories. At the bottom, Chipata United and Kafue Eagles faced growing relegation concerns, while Young Green Buffaloes and Leopards Hill secured wins to move towards safety. As the season progresses, the competition in the ZPL National Division One League is heating up across all positions.
