Zpl National League Week 33 Preview: Promotion Race Boils Over
The 2025/26 ZPL National League season is entering a decisive phase, with Week 33 fixtures set to significantly shape the promotion race. With just a handful of matches remaining, the battle for top-flight qualification is tighter than ever.
At the summit, Roan United FC and Trident FC are level on 61 points, separated only by goal difference, while Makeni All Stars remain firmly in contention with 60 points. The margin for error is now virtually non-existent.
Roan United will face a stern test against Forest Rangers, a side currently sitting fourth with 57 points and still harboring outside promotion hopes. This fixture could prove pivotal, as a slip-up for Roan could open the door for their closest challengers.
Trident FC, on the other hand, will take on Aguila Stars away in Lusaka. While Aguila sit mid-table, their attacking record suggests they are capable of upsetting the promotion contenders.
Makeni All Stars will clash with Kafue Celtic in what is arguably one of the standout fixtures of the weekend. Kafue Celtic, currently sixth with 55 points, are not entirely out of the promotion picture and will be desperate to close the gap.
Elsewhere, Chirundu United, the surprise package of the season and fresh from their giant-killing exploits in the ABSA Cup, will host Chipata City Council FC. A win for Chirundu could see them push closer to the top three, depending on results elsewhere.
Further down the table, the relegation battle remains equally intense. Teams like Locus FC, Chambishi FC, River Plate, and Mpulungu Harbour are all fighting to avoid the drop, making every fixture a must-win.
