17-Year-Old Paul Mupila Joins MathKat United

Seventeen-year-old centre-back Paul Mupila has joined MathKat United FC and made his debut for the club in the ongoing 2026 Zambia Premier League Men’s National Division Transitional Season, taking an important step forward in his young football career.

Mupila, who previously featured for the team Young Family Soccer Academy, made the move to MathKat United this year as he looks to develop his abilities and establish himself at a higher level of competition.

The teenage defender was included in the team for their opening transitional league fixture against Lumwana Radiants, marking his first appearance for the Mansa-based side.

The encounter ended in a closely contested 2-2 draw, with MathKat United collecting a point in their opening match. Although the result did not produce a winning start, it gave Mupila an opportunity to begin gaining competitive experience with his new club.

Based in Mansa District in Luapula Province, MathKat United have returned to the national league after a 10-year absence. Their participation in the 2026 campaign marks an important moment for the club as they seek to re-establish themselves in national football.

For Mupila, joining the club presents an opportunity to grow as a defender while gaining valuable experience in a competitive environment. At just 17, the centre-back will be looking to build on his debut and work towards securing a regular place in the team.

Reflecting on his journey, Mupila referenced Zechariah 4:10, a Bible verse that encourages believers not to despise small beginnings and speaks of the Lord rejoicing to see the work begin. The message reflects his outlook as he embarks on a new chapter in his football career.

The young defender also expressed gratitude to his former club and technical staff for helping facilitate a smooth transition to MathKat United, acknowledging their role in supporting his next step.

With the 2026 National Division Transitional Season underway, Mupila will be hoping to continue developing his game, gain more first-team minutes and contribute to MathKat United’s efforts as the club makes the most of its return to national league football.
