ZPL National League 2025/26 Preview: Matchweek 6
The ZPL National League is back this weekend, and Matchweek 6 is already shaping up like a blockbuster Nollywood script – full of drama, heartbreak, and maybe even a few miracle comebacks. Let’s dive in!
Saturday, September 20th
Locus FC vs Mpulungu Harbour (13:00 – Independence Stadium, Lusaka)
Locus have been wobbling like a chair with one short leg (5 points from 5). They host Mpulungu Harbour, who themselves are stuck mid-table with 6 points. Expect more splashing than sailing here – both teams desperate for 3 points to avoid sinking further.
Jumulo FC vs Trident (15:00 – Kafubu Stadium, Luanshya)
Jumulo (6 points) haven’t exactly been lighting fireworks, and now they face Trident, who are in 4th with 10 points and sniffing around the promotion spots. Trident will come in like pirates, looking to loot all three points. Jumulo must be sharp, or else this will be a shipwreck.
Chambishi vs Kafue Celtics (15:00 – Chambishi Stadium)
Chambishi (5 points) are still finding their rhythm, while Celtics sit just above them with 7. This feels like a dance-off – both teams trying to groove their way up the table. Could be tight, could be scrappy, but both need this win to stay relevant.
Lumwana Radiants vs Makeni All Stars (15:00 – Lumwana Ground)
Lumwana Radiants (5 points) host 5th-placed Makeni All Stars (10 points). Radiants haven’t exactly shined yet, but they’ll hope home advantage helps. The All Stars? Well, they’ve been glowing, and if Radiants aren’t careful, they’ll be left in the shadows.
Indeni FC vs Kitwe United (15:00 – Indeni Sports Complex, Ndola)
Bottom half clash. Indeni (3 points) vs Kitwe United (4 points). This one smells like a relegation dogfight already – two sides struggling like a phone with 1% battery. Whoever wins here might just get a much-needed recharge.
Sunday, September 21st
Aguila Stars vs Roan United (13:00 – Nkoloma Stadium, Lusaka)
Big one! Aguila (8 points) host league leaders Roan United, who are flawless with 15 points from 5. Roan are flying higher than school fees in January, but Aguila will fancy their chances at home. If Aguila clip their wings, it’ll be headline stuff.
Ndola United vs River Plate (15:00 – Musa Kasonka Stadium, Ndola)
Ndola (3 points) vs River Plate (2 points). This is basically a “who wants it less?” derby. Both sides rooted at the bottom like stubborn weeds. Whoever loses might just need counselling by full-time.
Chirundu United vs Atletico Lusaka (15:00 – Edwin Imboela Stadium, Lusaka)
Second-placed Chirundu (11 points) are buzzing and face Atletico Lusaka, who are dead last with a single lonely point. If Atletico somehow win this, it’ll be the miracle of the season. Otherwise, Chirundu fans will be dancing all the way to the border.
Chipata City Council vs Forest Rangers (15:00 – David Kaunda Stadium, Chipata)
Chipata (7 points) are unpredictable, but Forest Rangers (11 points) are 3rd and looking sharp. This could be the match of the weekend. Expect goals, drama, and maybe even some political speeches if the councillors get too excited.
Roan United are untouchable on top with 15 points, Chirundu and Forest Rangers are breathing down their necks on 11, while Atletico Lusaka… well, they’re somewhere at the bottom asking for directions.
So buckle up, ZPL fans – this weekend promises banter, heartbreak, and football chaos. Don’t blink – you might miss the moment Atletico finally find the net again.
