Zambian Football Mourns the Passing of Former U20 Manager Daniel Jere

FAZ President Keith Mweemba Leads Tributes for Daniel Jere

The Zambian football fraternity is mourning the sudden passing of Daniel Greyford Jere, a respected former Under-20 national team manager and seasoned football administrator. Jere, who was serving as a Green Buffaloes committee member, tragically passed away on Monday evening after collapsing at his home. He was rushed to Chilenje Level One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His death marks a significant loss for the football community, particularly for those who worked alongside him during Zambia’s most memorable youth football achievements.


Key Figure in Zambia’s U20 AFCON 2017 Triumph

Jere is best remembered for his outstanding role as team manager of the Junior Chipolopolo, who lifted the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title on home soil in 2017. The historic win remains one of Zambia’s proudest footballing achievements.

In addition to his national team duties, Jere also worked as team manager for Nkana Football Club, one of Zambia’s most successful and storied clubs.


FAZ President Pays Tribute

FAZ President Keith Mweemba, through a statement issued by FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala, expressed his deep sadness over the loss.

“On behalf of my executive committee, myself and the entire football fraternity, I am saddened by the death of Mr. Jere who served the game in various capacities,” said Mweemba.

“Mr. Jere will be remembered fondly for his role as U20 AFCON winning manager in 2017 among many roles he played, including serving as Under-17 team manager.”

Nkana and Green Buffaloes Remember Jere

Nkana Football Club, where Jere once served as team manager, also mourned his passing:

“Nkana Football Club is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Mr. Daniel Greyford Jere, our former team manager, after a short illness this afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jere family, his friends, and the entire football community.”

His most recent club, Green Buffaloes, described him as “a loyal servant of the game,” highlighting his commitment and dedication to football administration over the years.
