Zambia Crash Out of U17 Women’s World Cup After Second Loss

Zambia’s U17 Women’s World Cup journey came to an abrupt end following their second defeat in the 2024 tournament, a 2-0 loss to debutants Poland. The Copper Princesses struggled to gain momentum as Poland opened the scoring early in the 7th minute through Kinga Wyrwas. Despite some efforts to respond, Zambia was unable to break through the Polish defense.

The second half continued with Zambia battling for an equalizer, but Poland’s Weronika Arasniewicz doubled the lead in the 46th minute, leaving the Zambian side with an uphill task. Poland’s organized gameplay and solid defense held Zambia at bay, and their two-goal advantage proved insurmountable for the African side.

This result marks Zambia’s second consecutive loss in the group stage, having previously been defeated by Germany in their opening match. With two losses, Zambia’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages were dashed, confirming their early exit from the tournament.

Although eliminated, the Copper Princesses will play their final group match against Japan on October 23. The match, however, will serve only for pride, as both teams have no chance of advancing further. Despite the disappointing outcome, Zambia’s participation at the global event for the second time since their debut in 2014 highlights their ongoing development on the world stage.

The young Zambian team will now look to build on the experience gained in this tournament as they focus on future competitions, aiming to strengthen their international presence in women’s football.

Full-Time:
Zambia 0-2 Poland
(Kinga Wyrwas 7’, Weronika Arasniewicz 46’)
