Power Dynamos Faces Defeat in First Leg Against African Stars in CAF Champions League
In a challenging start to their CAF Champions League campaign, Power Dynamos experienced a setback as they were defeated in the first leg of the preliminary round by African Stars. The Zambian representatives encountered a tough test on foreign soil, as they aimed to make their mark in the continental competition.
The match unfolded with African Stars asserting their dominance early on. In the 27th minute, the host team managed to break the deadlock when Patrick Stephanus capitalized on a scoring opportunity, sending the home crowd into jubilation. The goal placed Power Dynamos on the back foot, prompting them to rally and find a way back into the game.
Displaying resilience and determination, Power Dynamos managed to level the playing field before the halftime whistle. Striker Andy Boyeli emerged as the hero for the visitors, netting a crucial goal in the 45th minute. The equalizer injected a renewed sense of hope and purpose into the Zambian side, setting the stage for an intense second half.
However, the momentum swung back in favor of African Stars in the 60th minute. Edmund Kambanda‘s well-executed strike found the mark, allowing the host team to regain the lead. The goal put Power Dynamos in a difficult position once again, as they faced the challenge of overturning the deficit.
Looking ahead to the next leg, Power Dynamos finds themselves in a precarious situation. To qualify for the group stages of the CAF Champions League, the current Zambian champions will need to secure a victory in the upcoming match with a clean sheet, hoping to exploit the away goal advantage in their favor.
