Patson Daka’s First Start of the Season Ends in Defeat
Chipolopolo striker Patson Daka made his first start of the 2024/25 English Premier League season as Leicester City succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Boxing Day. The Zambian forward played the full 90 minutes, stepping in for Jamie Vardy, who missed the match due to a knock.
Leicester took an early lead in the 6th minute when Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew found the back of the net. However, Liverpool responded emphatically with a brace from Cody Gakpo and a goal by Egyptian superstar Mohammed Salah. The win solidified Liverpool’s position at the top of the table, pushing them seven points clear of their closest rivals.
Despite Daka’s energetic performance, Leicester struggled to maintain their lead, with defensive lapses proving costly. Under the guidance of coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy, the Foxes are facing increasing pressure after suffering their third consecutive defeat.
The loss leaves Leicester City in a precarious position, sitting third from the bottom with 14 points from 18 matches, just one point away from safety. With relegation looming, the team will need to regroup quickly to turn their season around.
Leicester’s next challenge is a crucial home game against struggling defending champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. The match, scheduled for 16:30 CAT, presents an opportunity for the Foxes to bounce back and gain momentum in their fight for survival.
