Nkwazi FC Grind Out Important Win as Coach Tembo Praises Team Discipline

Nkwazi FC returned to winning ways with a disciplined performance that delivered a crucial 1–0 victory over ZESCO United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. It was a match where structure, organisation and focus proved decisive, lifting Nkwazi to 12th on the log with 13 points after 14 matches played.

The Police side came into this fixture looking to respond after a disappointing 1–0 home defeat to Nchanga Rangers in their previous outing. Head coach Masauso Tembo had demanded a reaction from his players and this time, they delivered.

Nkwazi looked sharper in their tactical execution, pressing intelligently and maintaining solid defensive shape throughout the contest. Their breakthrough arrived in the 28th minute when George Ndhlovu produced the decisive moment, calmly slotting in to give Nkwazi the lead. From there, the team showed maturity and game management, ensuring the advantage was protected until full time.

After the match, Coach Tembo reflected on both the performance and the broader progress of his squad. He revealed that the team executed “90% of what we worked on in training,” noting that this was exactly the type of response he expected following last week’s setback. He also expressed what he wished had been different, saying he would have loved to see his side pick-up maximum points in the previous game against Nchanga Rangers to build consistency.

One of the standouts talking points was his praise for goalkeeper Lukas Mainza, who delivered another steady performance between the sticks. Tembo didn’t hold back in complimenting him, saying Mainza is “a very good goalkeeper,” further adding that Nkwazi “has the best goalkeeping department in the league.”

For ZESCO United, the defeat halts their momentum as they remain in 13th place with 11 points from 10 matches. With games in hand, they still have room to climb, but the need for a stronger push becomes more urgent as the season progresses.

Nkwazi will hope this victory sparks a run of consistency, something Coach Tembo has publicly identified as the missing ingredient in their campaign so far. With improved execution, growing confidence and a solid defensive base, the Police side now has a platform to build from as they prepare for their next outing.
