Konkola Blades Queens FC have confirmed the signing of Zambian international midfielder Natasha Witika as a free agent following her departure from Nigerian side Delta Queens.
The talented midfielder, who has blazed the trail for Zambian women’s football abroad, brings a wealth of experience to the Chililabombwe-based side as they prepare for the upcoming Eden University Women’s Super League season.
Witika Returns Home After Nigerian Stint
Witika became the first Zambian female footballer to play in Nigeria, joining Bayelsa Queens in 2022 before moving to Delta Queens in 2023. During her time in Nigeria, she featured in the highly competitive NWFL Premiership, helping Bayelsa Queens lift the league title and also representing the country at the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast.
Speaking previously about her Nigerian experience, Witika highlighted the intensity of the league.
“The Nigerian league is competitive, every team is capable of winning the league. It is all about power play here and that requires one to be more physical with enough strength as well as a quick thinker both on and off the ball in order to excel,” she said.
A Career of Firsts
Witika has carved out a reputation as a pioneer in women’s football. Before her Nigerian adventure, she became the first Zambian woman to play in Tanzania, starring for Tiger Queens where she was the club’s top scorer with 10 goals in 2021, guiding them to promotion to the Serengeti Lite Premier League. Her performances earned her the nickname “Rasta Girl” due to her trademark dreadlocks.
She has also represented ZESCO Ndola Girls, further cementing her place as one of Zambia’s standout midfielders.
Blades Boosted Ahead of New Season
Konkola Blades Queens are optimistic that Witika’s creativity, international experience, and leadership qualities will significantly strengthen their squad. The club views her signing as a major boost in their ambitions to challenge strongly in the women’s top-flight.
