NAPSA Stars Unveil New Technical Team Amid Survival Battle

NAPSA Stars Unveil New Technical Team Amid Survival Battle

NAPSA Stars have officially unveiled a new-look technical bench as the club moves to stabilise its season after parting ways with Head Coach Sipho Mumbi.

The Lusaka-based side confirmed the restructuring following a difficult run of results that has left the pensioners locked in a tense relegation battle. While the departure of Mumbi was described as mutual, the decision came amid mounting pressure, with the team managing just four wins this season and sitting only two points above the drop zone.

Their final match under Mumbi ended in a narrow 1–0 defeat to Mufulira Wanderers — a result that appears to have accelerated the club’s internal review and eventual technical reset.

Chilumba Elevated to Head Coach

At the centre of the new structure is Tennant Chilumba, who has been promoted from Technical Director to Head Coach. The appointment signals a preference for internal continuity rather than external disruption. Chilumba is already familiar with the squad dynamics, club philosophy and operational framework — a factor that could prove critical as NAPSA seek immediate improvement.

In high-pressure situations, clubs often opt for leadership that understands the institutional culture. By elevating Chilumba, NAPSA are betting on stability, accountability and quicker tactical recalibration.

Supporting Cast Strengthened

Chilumba will be assisted by Zeddy Sailleti as First Assistant Coach and Keegan Syabene as Second Assistant Coach, forming a revised backroom team tasked with sharpening tactical execution and restoring consistency.

Philip Banda has been appointed Goalkeeper Coach, reinforcing a specialist department that can significantly influence match outcomes. In tightly contested relegation battles, defensive organisation and goalkeeping efficiency often determine survival.

The club confirmed that the restructuring also included the departures of First Assistant Coach Lawrence Munsha Lubinda and Goalkeeper Coach Samuel Banda, underlining that this is not a partial adjustment but a full technical reconfiguration.

Strategic Shift, Not Just Reaction

Chief Executive Officer Charles Chakatazya welcomed the new appointments, emphasizing the need to restore discipline, competitiveness and performance standards. The messaging suggests that the overhaul is intended to be proactive rather than purely reactive.

From a structural standpoint, this move appears designed to tighten internal accountability and streamline decision-making processes within the technical department. When margins are thin, clarity of tactical identity and leadership cohesion become essential.

What This Means Going Forward

NAPSA Stars’ focus now shifts from transition to implementation. The immediate objective is clear: stabilise performances, convert narrow losses into points, and create a buffer from the relegation zone.

The success of this new technical bench will hinge on how quickly Chilumba and his team can instill renewed belief and tactical sharpness. In relegation battles, momentum can change rapidly — but only if structural adjustments translate into measurable results on the pitch.

For NAPSA Stars, this is more than a coaching change. It is a strategic reset at a critical juncture of the season.
