Copper Queens defender Martha Tembo has completed a move to Israeli Women’s Premier League side Hapoel Raanana Women ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The versatile Zambian international joins the Israeli outfit from Turkish club Hakkarigücü Spor and is expected to link up with her new teammates after representing Zambia at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The move marks another important milestone in Tembo’s growing professional career as she continues to establish herself among Zambia’s top female football exports.
Raanana Welcome Copper Queens Star
Hapoel Raanana confirmed the signing through the club’s official social media platforms, expressing confidence that Tembo will strengthen both their defence and midfield.
The club highlighted her experience with the Zambia Women’s National Team, noting her appearances at both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games.
“Meet our new defender/midfielder: Martha Tembo, Zambia National Team player, who joins Raanana Women’s Soccer ahead of the 2026/27 season.”
“Martha is a regular starter for Zambia, with dozens of international appearances and valuable experience at the highest level, including appearances at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games.”
“A highly versatile player, Martha brings physicality, pace, experience, character and real quality to both the back line and midfield. We believe she will be a major boost for the team — on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
The Israeli club also confirmed that Tembo will report for duty after completing her WAFCON campaign with the Copper Queens.
Continuing Her European Journey
The move to Israel becomes Tembo’s third overseas club since leaving Zambia in January 2023.
She first joined Kazakhstan’s record 16-time champions BIIK Kazygurt before securing a move to Turkish side Hakkarigücü Spor in September 2024.
Her latest transfer reflects her continued development and growing reputation in European women’s football, with each move presenting a new challenge at a higher level.
Focus Remains on WAFCON
Before beginning her new chapter in Israel, Tembo will concentrate on helping the Copper Queens at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Zambia enters the tournament with ambitions of challenging for the continental title while also securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Tembo is expected to play a key role in the squad thanks to her versatility, leadership and international experience.
Conclusion
Martha Tembo’s move to Hapoel Raanana is another positive step for both her career and Zambian women’s football.
As she prepares for WAFCON with the Copper Queens, the defender has already secured her next challenge, continuing to raise Zambia’s profile on the international stage.
