The 22-year-old, who joined Ried on loan from Italian Serie A club Cagliari, made an instant impact in his first competitive appearance, showcasing his attacking prowess and creativity.
Mutandwa Cancels Out Salzburg’s Lead
After Sota Kitano opened the scoring for Salzburg, Mutandwa restored parity in the 31st minute with a superbly timed header, announcing himself on the Austrian topflight in style. The goal was a product of sharp movement and precision positioning from the Chibombo-born forward.
Zambian Sets Up Ried’s Second Goal
Early in the second half, the Zambian international turned provider, delivering a well-placed cross that found Germany’s Oliver Steurer, who made no mistake from close range to make it 2-1 in the 53rd minute.
Ried looked poised to end a long winless streak against Salzburg, having failed to beat them in their last 16 meetings, but were denied victory by a late equalizer from Yorbe Vertessen.
SV Ried Impressed with Mutandwa’s Debut
The Austrian side, who are expected to battle for a strong finish this season, will be buoyed by Mutandwa’s promising performance. His pace, decision-making, and composure in front of goal stood out against one of Austria’s most formidable teams.
Mutandwa’s performance also signals positive signs for Zambia’s national team, with head coach Avram Grant likely to keep a close eye on the striker’s progress.
Joining the Ranks of Daka and Mwepu
Having moved to Austria with the option to buy, Mutandwa now aims to emulate fellow Zambian stars Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu, who both launched their European success stories at Red Bull Salzburg.
If his debut is anything to go by, the youngster could soon join Zambia’s growing list of players making waves in Europe.
