Hervé Renard Appointed Tunisia Coach After Lamouchi Sacking

Hervé Renard Appointed Tunisia Coach After Lamouchi Sacking

Tunisia have appointed renowned French coach Hervé Renard as head coach until the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi.

The Carthage Eagles acted swiftly after their humiliating 5-1 defeat to Sweden, with Renard set to begin his duties immediately as Tunisia fight to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Tunisia Move Fast After Lamouchi Exit

Lamouchi became the first coaching casualty of the tournament after Tunisia’s heavy opening defeat left the North Africans rooted to the bottom of Group F.

With crucial matches against Japan and the Netherlands still to come, the Tunisian Football Federation wasted little time in securing one of the most respected coaches in international football.

In a statement, the federation confirmed that Renard’s appointment will initially run until the conclusion of the World Cup.

“The Tunisian Football Federation announces the appointment of Hervé Renard as the coach of the national team until the end of the 2026 World Cup.”

The federation also revealed plans to discuss a longer-term agreement after the tournament.

“The agreement also states to open negotiations after the end of participation in the World Cup, for long-term cooperation based on specific sporting goals.”

A Proven Winner Arrives

Few coaches possess Renard’s pedigree in African football.

The Frenchman famously guided Zambia to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations title before leading Ivory Coast to AFCON glory three years later.

His ability to inspire teams in tournament football has made him one of the most respected coaches on the continent.

Renard has also managed Morocco, Saudi Arabia and France’s women’s national team, bringing vast international experience to the Tunisian setup.

Tough Task Ahead

Tunisia’s situation remains difficult.

The Carthage Eagles are currently without a point in Group F following their defeat to Sweden.

Their next assignment comes against Japan, who earned a valuable 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in their opening fixture.

Anything less than victory could leave Tunisia on the brink of elimination.

Renard will therefore have very little time to implement his ideas before stepping into one of the biggest challenges of his coaching career.
