The 2023 Absa Cup quarterfinal clash between Green Buffaloes and Forest Rangers certainly didn’t disappoint, as both sides put in a valiant effort to secure a spot in the semi-finals. However, it was Rangers who emerged victorious, thanks to a stunning strike from Cephas Mulombwa in the 64th minute.
The match was evenly poised from the outset, with both teams exchanging blows in a bid to gain the upper hand. Buffaloes looked dangerous in attack, with their forwards causing all sorts of problems for the Rangers defense. However, they just couldn’t find the back of the net, with some outstanding goalkeeping from Rangers‘ shot-stopper keeping them at bay.
As the game progressed, it became clear that one moment of magic could decide the outcome, and it was Rangers who produced it. Mulombwa picked up the ball on the edge of the box, and with one swift movement, he unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot that flew past the Buffaloes‘ goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The goal sent the Rangers fans into raptures, and Buffaloes were left shell-shocked. They threw everything they had at their opponents in the closing stages, but the Rangers defense held firm to secure the victory.
With this result, Forest Rangers have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2023 Absa Cup, and they will be a force to be reckoned with as the tournament progresses. As for Green Buffaloes, they will be disappointed to have fallen at this hurdle, but they can hold their heads high after putting in a spirited performance against a strong Rangers side.
