The 2023 Women’s World Cup is underway in Australia and New Zealand.The tournament which takes a month to finish comprises of beautiful games, packed with drama and excitement.
Representing Africa is South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, and Nigeria all of which are in different groups .Zambia which is in group C will be making a debut with their first match against Japan on 22nd July 2023 at Waikato Stadium exactly at 9:00am.
For Zambia which is drawn alongside Spain, Costa Rica and Japan will be on the field without their fierce goal keeper Hazel Nali who is injured.
MATCHES PLAYED And RESULTS
Group A
The first opening match was yesterday between New zealand and Norway, New Zealand led with 1-0 while Switzerland won its first game against Philippines with 2-0 score, Switzerland first goal came through R. Bachmann in the 45th minute and another one by S. S. Piubel was scored in the 64th minute.
Group B
Australia played against republic of Ireland in a game that ended 1-0 with Australia taking the lead.
Another game was a thrash where Nigeria played against Canada and the match ended in a draw with both teams sharing the points where also Nigeria’s Deborah Abiodun was given the first red card of the tournament.
