FC Leopards Part Ways with Head Coach Justin Chinama

FC Leopards Part Ways with Head Coach Justin Chinama

MTN Super League side FC Leopards have mutually agreed to part ways with veteran head coach Justin Chinama, bringing an end to his tenure at the Kabwe-based club. The development also sees assistant coach Donewell Yobe and goalkeeper trainer Lameck Nyangu exit the club as part of the restructuring process.

Chinama, Yobe and Nyangu Exit Confirmed

The decision was confirmed in Lusaka by Zambia Correctional Service Sports and Culture Affairs Director, Assistant Commissioner Divino Kifita, who expressed gratitude to the departing technical staff for their dedication and service to the club.

“I would like to confirm that we have mutually agreed to separate with head coach Mr Justin Chinama, his assistant Mr Donewell Yobe, and goalkeeper trainer Mr Lameck Nyangu. We sincerely thank them for the contribution they made to the club,” said Assistant Commissioner Kifita.

Chinama joined FC Leopards last year and was instrumental in guiding the club back to the MTN Super League, achieving promotion after a strong campaign in the lower division. His departure marks the end of a short but impactful spell that restored Leopards to top-flight football.

Experienced Career Comes to a Close at Leopards

Beyond his work at FC Leopards, Chinama boasts a solid coaching résumé, having previously handled Green Buffaloes and Mufulira Wanderers, among other clubs. His experience and tactical understanding were viewed as key assets during Leopards’ promotion push.

Assistant Commissioner Kifita acknowledged the importance of the trio’s contribution, noting that their efforts laid a foundation the club will continue to build upon as it navigates life back in the elite league.

The club has since moved swiftly to ensure continuity, announcing interim measures ahead of their next league fixture.

Sichimata Appointed Interim Head Coach

Chief Inspector Sunday Sichimata has been appointed interim head coach with immediate effect. Kifita revealed that a permanent replacement will be announced in due course but urged supporters to rally behind Sichimata during the transition period.

“A new and permanent coach will be announced soon, but in the interim we have asked Chief Inspector Sunday Sichimata to help the team,” Kifita said.

Sichimata, who is a CAF C–licensed coach and an employee of the Zambia Correctional Service, expressed humility and determination following his appointment.

“I am humbled to have been given this rare opportunity to help the team. With teamwork, a lot can be achieved,” Sichimata said, while urging players to fight for the badge and give their all.

Strong Background in Playing and Coaching

A former defender, Sichimata featured for Mufulira Blackpool, Nchanga Rangers, and FC Leopards during his playing career, earning a reputation for discipline and commitment at the back.

After retiring, he transitioned into coaching with a strong focus on youth development. He has worked with several youth teams, including Young Leopards, and in 2024 was part of the technical bench that guided Young Leopards to victory in the Central Province Division One League, securing promotion to the National Division One League.

Conclusion

FC Leopards now turn their attention to league duties under interim leadership, with a challenging fixture against Green Buffaloes scheduled for Saturday at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka — a clash often referred to as the “military derby.” As the club enters a new chapter, attention will be on how the team responds on the pitch during this transitional phase.
