The stage is set in Sale, Morocco, as the Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team, fondly known as the disciplinary committee, kick off their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign tonight against Paraguay in a crucial Group F encounter.

Coming off a 1-1 draw against Colombia in their final preparatory match, Coach Carol Kanyemba believes her side has gained valuable insight into the South American style of play. The tactician says her team is fully prepared and motivated to make a strong start to their World Cup journey.

“We know what to expect from South American teams. The girls are ready, focused, and determined to start with a win,” said Kanyemba ahead of the fixture.

So far, no African side has managed to secure a victory in their opening fixtures, with Morocco and Cameroon both suffering defeats. However, the Copper Princesses are keen to change that narrative tonight.

Team captain Mercy Chipasula, who impressed with her fine form during the qualifiers and warm-up matches, is expected to play a key role as Zambia aims to make a positive statement on the global stage.

After Paraguay, Zambia will face Japan on October 22, before rounding off their Group F campaign against New Zealand on October 25.

With history and pride at stake, the Copper Princesses will be looking to open their account in style and fly the Zambian flag high at the world’s biggest stage.
