Bruce Mwape Foresees Challenging Encounter in Olympic Qualifier Against Ghana
Zambia Women’s National Team coach Bruce Mwape has predicted a tough game in the 2024 Paris Olympics Qualifiers third round, first leg against the Black Queens of Ghana.
Kick-off at the Accra Sports Complex will be at 17h00GMT (19h00CAT).
Mwape said in an interview with FAZ Media that the Copper Queens aim is to finish the game in Accra and reduce their pressure going into the reverse fixture at Levy Mwanawasa stadium next Wednesday on 28 February.
“I think tomorrow’s game won’t be easy. We are all fighting to qualify to the Olympics. All I can say is that we shall make sure we don’t concede goals and be the first ones to score. If all goes well, we want to finish the game in Ghana,” Mwape charged.
He said Ghana was a tactically disciplined side and they would not underrate them .
“ I watched them against Senegal (and) they won 2-0. They looked organized and are playing well. I have seen their weaknesses and strengths. We shall not play an open game till we see how they play and we can change our system,” he added.
Mwape also expressed confidence in the team assembled that has a blend of young players and the core of his experienced players that were part of the WAFCON qualifiers.
“Looking at the response of the players in training yesterday, they all did well in training from the first minute to the final exercise. They look sharp and ready for the game. They will be able to deliver,” Mwape said .
The winner of the two-legged fixture will qualify to the fourth and last round of the qualifiers to face the winners between Morocco and Tunisia.
