For many people across the continent, Africa Day is a moment to reflect on identity, culture, unity and the shared experiences that connect different countries, languages and communities.
This year, 1xBet is marking the occasion in Zambia through the campaign “Africa Through My Eyes”, built around a simple idea: Africa means something personal to everyone, and these stories deserve to be heard.
As part of the campaign, 1xBet launching a social media contest from 25 to 31 May, where participants can share their own view of Africa by completing the phrase “For me, Africa = …” under the campaign post and tagging a friend. The most meaningful entries will be selected, and three winners will receive Africa Celebration Boxes.
Interview: Mzenga on Africa, identity and pride
At the centre of the campaign is Mzenga, a friend of the 1xBet brand in Zambia. Together, Mzenga and 1xBet invite people to look at Africa not only as a continent, but as a feeling, a memory, a source of pride and a shared cultural space.
What does Africa mean to you today, not as a place, but as a feeling or a state of mind?
Mzenga:
“Africa is a space that gives you peace, originality, and a sense of belonging. It is a feeling that reminds you to move with intention and purpose, because its energy deeply connects with the soul. Africa creates a sense of identity that feels natural and timeless. It is a spirit, a connection, and a home for the soul.”
Which moment or experience has shaped your perception of Africa the most?
Mzenga:
“The way people celebrate, support each other, and uphold tradition and authenticity has greatly shaped my perception of Africa. There is a unique sense of togetherness that exists within African communities. People show up for one another in moments of joy, hardship, growth, and celebration.”
How would you complete the phrase: “For me, Africa = …” and why?
Mzenga:
“For me, Africa is a place of freedom and peace.
This phrase is also at the heart of the 1xBet campaign. Participants are invited to complete the sentence “For me, Africa = …” in their own words and share what the continent means to them personally.”
Why is it important for people to share their own stories about Africa instead of only consuming someone else’s perspective?
Mzenga:
“People need to share their real stories and experiences about Africa so that the world can begin to see and understand its true image and position, rather than relying on hearsay, stereotypes, or outdated narratives. Authentic stories have the power to present Africa from a genuine perspective.”
A campaign about voice, pride and identity
For 1xBet, the campaign connects naturally with the meaning of Africa Day. As a brand active in Zambia and across African markets, 1xBet uses this moment to highlight local voices, cultural pride and the personal stories that shape how people see the continent.
Through Mzenga’s perspective, “Africa Through My Eyes” becomes an invitation to speak, remember and celebrate Africa through real experiences.
Everyone is invited to join the campaign from 25 to 31 May on 1xBet’s social media platforms: complete the phrase “For me, Africa = …”, share a personal thought, story or memory, and tag a friend in the comments. Three selected winners will receive Africa Celebration Boxes.
