Racheal Kundananji’s Remarkable Debut in the US National Women’s Soccer League
In a historic moment for Zambian football, Racheal Kundananji marked her debut for Bay FC in the US National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with a stunning performance against Houston Dash.
Overcoming an injury setback and completing all necessary paperwork for her groundbreaking transfer to the United States, Kundananji entered the pitch as the most expensive female footballer globally, following her remarkable €735,000 move from Madrid CFF to Bay FC.
Substituting Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala in the 62nd minute, Kundananji wasted no time in making her presence felt. Her electrifying performance injected new energy into the game, culminating in a breathtaking moment in the 93rd minute.

With a display of skill and finesse, Kundananji curled the ball into the net from a tight angle, leveling the score at 2-2 and sending the crowd into a frenzy. Her jubilant celebration included proudly displaying the Zambian flag to the 18,000 spectators witnessing Bay FC’s first home match of the season.
Despite the heartbreak of a last-minute goal conceded in the 10th minute of added time, resulting in a 3-2 loss for Bay FC, Kundananji’s 93rd-minute goal will undoubtedly be remembered as one for the history books.
Looking ahead, Kundananji is poised to join the Copper Queens for international duty in the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers. With her exceptional talent and unwavering determination, she aims to contribute significantly as Zambia faces the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in crucial back-to-back matches.
