Perry Mutapa Targets Fourth Straight Win as Green Eagles Prepare for Nkwazi

Green Eagles head coach Perry Mutapa has urged his players to remain focused as they prepare to face Nkwazi FC, insisting that their impressive start to the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional Season must be followed by continued hard work and consistency.

Green Eagles have collected nine points from three matches, scoring six goals and conceding just one to establish themselves among the early pace-setters in the competition. However, Mutapa believes the team cannot afford to become complacent as they seek to extend their winning run against a Nkwazi side equally determined to secure victory.

“In terms of preparation, we have just done the way we do our preparations,” Mutapa said. “Of course, it’s a different team. It’s a big game for us, it’s a big game for Nkwazi, knowing that they really need a victory, but we also want to maintain our winning streak.”

Despite the team’s perfect start and impressive defensive record, Mutapa has reminded his players that the campaign is still in its early stages. With 15 matches remaining, the coach believes maintaining concentration and managing different personalities within the squad will be crucial to sustaining their momentum.

“It’s not easy when you are dealing with different individuals which makes a team,” he explained. “In terms of trying to maintain our winning streak, it’s just reminders… we have only played three games, so three wins were one good, but there is more to play. There is 15 games remaining, so three games doesn’t mean anything even if we have collected nine points.”

Green Eagles’ six goals scored and just one conceded reflect a positive balance between their attacking output and defensive organisation. Mutapa, however, is keen for his side to continue improving and pay attention to the finer details that can determine the outcome of matches.

“Football is a game of details, and set pieces are part of those details,” Mutapa said. “We just have to do them, and especially this season, I think we have done them well, so we just hope to continue.”

The coach also praised the supporters who travelled to back the team during their previous weekend fixture, acknowledging the role they played in encouraging the players. With the upcoming encounter taking place in Lusaka, Mutapa hopes the team will once again enjoy strong backing from the stands.

“I think the last weekend, the supporters from Lusaka did a marvellous job, and we know we are in Lusaka, so we know they are going to come and push the team,” he said.

Green Eagles will now look to extend their winning streak against Nkwazi head into the encounter sitting seventh in Stream B with two points from three matches. They opened their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Roan United before recording back-to-back goalless draws against Chirundu United and Green Buffaloes.

With no victory in their opening three fixtures, Nkwazi will be eager to secure their first win of the campaign, while Green Eagles will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the season.

With nine points secured, six goals scored and only one conceded, Mutapa’s side have made a promising start, but the coach insists that continued focus and consistency will be essential with 15 matches still to play.
