Osward Mutapa Unveiled as Power Dynamos Head Coach
In a significant move within the Zambian football landscape, Power Dynamos Football Club, the reigning champions of the Zambia Super League, has officially unveiled Osward Mutapa as the new Head Coach. This announcement comes following the departure of Mwenya Chipepo in November of the previous year, with Mutapa stepping into the leadership role at the Yellow side of Kitwe.
Osward Mutapa brings a wealth of coaching experience to Power Dynamos, having previously served as the head coach of the Zambia U-23 National Team. His success and expertise at the national level make him a notable addition to the coaching staff of the defending champions. Mutapa’s achievements, particularly with the U-23 side, highlight his ability to guide and develop talent, making him an ideal candidate for a club of Power Dynamos’ stature.
Mutapa’s commitment to Power Dynamos is reflected in the signing of a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club. This long-term agreement underlines the club’s confidence in Mutapa’s vision and coaching philosophy, providing stability and continuity as Power Dynamos aims for continued success in domestic and potentially continental competitions.

Osward Mutapa’s journey to Power Dynamos follows a successful stint with Lusaka-based side Nkwazi. His departure from Nkwazi, which was characterized as a mutual separation, marked the end of a chapter where Mutapa played a pivotal role in steering the team clear of relegation. Nkwazi’s survival on the final day of the season showcased Mutapa’s tactical acumen and ability to navigate challenging situations.
Taking over as the head coach at Power Dynamos, Mutapa faces the challenge of defending the league title and, at the very least, securing qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. The expectations are high, given Power Dynamos’ status as one of the top football clubs in Zambia. Mutapa’s strategic approach, combined with the talent at his disposal, will play a crucial role in determining the club’s success in the upcoming seasons.
The unveiling of Osward Mutapa took place at a colorful event held at the Power Dynamos secretariat in Kitwe. The event marked the beginning of a new era for the club, with fans and stakeholders expressing optimism about the journey ahead under Mutapa’s leadership.
As the new head coach of Power Dynamos, Osward Mutapa embarks on a challenging yet promising chapter, aiming to build on the club’s rich history and add more accolades to its impressive record. Football enthusiasts await the unfolding of this story, eager to witness the impact of Mutapa’s coaching prowess on the defending champions of the Zambia Super League.
