Nkana maintain perfect start with 2-0 win over Nchanga Rangers

Nkana FC maintained their perfect start to the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional Season with a 2-0 victory over Nchanga Rangers at Nkana Stadium on Sunday, scoring twice in the first half to secure a third consecutive league win.

Striker Lazarous Kambole continued his impressive scoring form by opening the scoring with his third goal of the campaign, before Patrick Gondwe struck just before half-time to give Kalampa a comfortable advantage. The result keeps Nkana firmly on course after collecting maximum points from their opening three matches.

Head coach Elijah Tana retained the starting XI that defeated Makeni All Stars 4-1 in their previous fixture, while Francis Bubu Mutalange remained unavailable as he continues his recovery from a pre-season injury.

Nkana threatened early when Jackson Kampamba delivered a cross into the penalty area, but captain Harrison Chisala’s header sailed narrowly over the crossbar.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock after Kedrick Mumba controlled possession in his own half and released Kambole. The striker created space for himself before calmly finishing to put Nkana ahead and register his third goal of the season.

Kalampa continued to push for another goal, with Chisala sending an effort over the bar after being set up by Francis Debra. Nchanga Rangers struggled to establish their rhythm, while Andrew Phiri received a yellow card for a challenge on Kampamba.

Nkana doubled their advantage shortly before the interval with a swift counter-attacking move. Goalkeeper William Mtonga initiated the attack by passing to Chisala, whose powerful effort was parried by Nchanga Rangers goalkeeper Victor Chabu into the path of Gondwe. The forward reacted quickly to score his first goal of the campaign and send Nkana into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The hosts continued to threaten after the restart, with Kambole showing good awareness to leave the ball for Kampamba, whose effort went narrowly wide.

Tana made his first substitution in the 66th minute, bringing on Nduna Zulu for Kampamba. Joseph Chileshe later replaced Chisala as Nkana looked to manage the closing stages and protect their advantage.

Nchanga Rangers struggled to penetrate Nkana’s organised defence as the hosts maintained their shape and discipline to see out the match and claim all three points.

Captain Chisala was named Player of the Match following an influential display as Nkana extended their winning run to three league matches, maintaining their perfect record in the transitional campaign.

Attention now turns to Week Five, with Kalampa set to travel to face Konkola Blades next Saturday as they look to continue their winning momentum.
