Namibia Confident of Upsetting Copper Queens in WAFCON Qualifiers
Namibia’s Brave Gladiators believe they have what it takes to disrupt Zambia’s Copper Queens and prevent them from securing a place at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The two nations will battle it out in the final round of the WAFCON qualifiers, with the winner over both legs earning a spot in the continental tournament. Despite Zambia’s pedigree, Namibia’s head coach Nicholas Jacobs has made it clear that his team is not intimidated by their highly-rated opponents.
“We know Zambia has some big names, but football is played on the pitch, not on paper. We are confident in our squad and believe we can cause an upset,” Jacobs stated.
The Copper Queens, who are looking to qualify for their third consecutive WAFCON, have become one of Africa’s top women’s teams in recent years. Their squad boasts Europe-based stars like Barbra Banda, Racheal Kundananji, and Evarine Katongo, making them the favorites on paper. However, Namibia is determined to prove that they can compete at the highest level.
The first leg of the clash will be played in Windhoek, before the decisive return fixture in Lusaka. Zambia will be aiming to avoid an early exit and book their ticket to the tournament, which will be held in Morocco.
With Namibia’s growing confidence and Zambia’s desire to maintain their WAFCON streak, this matchup promises to be a thrilling encounter.
