Green Eagles head coach Perry Mutapa has praised his players’ mental strength and tactical discipline after they continued their impressive start to the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional Season with victory over Roan United on Saturday.
Mutapa expressed delight with the result, stressing the importance of treating every fixture seriously in a condensed league campaign where dropped points could prove costly. Green Eagles have now collected maximum points from their opening three matches, moving to nine points while recording two clean sheets.
The coach credited his players for translating their training ground preparations into performances on the pitch, describing the team’s current mentality as a major positive.
“Seeing what we practise in training replicated on the pitch shows the great mental strength of this team. The players’ mindset right now is excellent,” Mutapa said.
Reflecting on the match, Mutapa explained that he expected opportunities to emerge on the counter-attack in the second half. Although Roan United enjoyed possession during the opening period, he felt Green Eagles created the clearer goal-scoring chances.
The coach was pleased that his side remained committed to its approach and ultimately achieved its objective of securing all three points.
“We came into this game wanting all three points, and we achieved our goal,” he added.
Mutapa also praised his technical bench for its contribution, revealing that the substitutions made during the encounter were tactical decisions that helped the team execute its plan.
“Credit also goes to the technical staff. Our substitutions were purely tactical and paid off,” he said.
With three consecutive victories behind them, Green Eagles will now turn their attention to their next fixture as they look to extend their winning run to four matches. Mutapa, however, remains focused on maintaining the standards that have helped his team establish an early advantage in Stream B.
The coach expects his players to continue preparing with the same intensity and discipline, knowing that their positive start must be backed by consistent performances throughout the transitional campaign.
