MTN Super League – Week 21 Wrap

MTN Super League – Week 21 Wrap

Week 21 of the MTN Super League delivered 21 goals, derby intensity and significant movement across both ends of the table. With the title race tightening and the relegation battle growing more complex, the round underscored how narrow the margins have become as the season approaches its decisive phase.

Napsa Stars 1–3 Power Dynamos

Defending champions Power Dynamos FC returned to league action in commanding fashion, securing a 3–1 away victory over Napsa Stars FC at Reiz Arena. Goals from Eddy Ankobo, Innocent Kashita and Brian Masanyinga sealed maximum points, while Matthew Topola scored the consolation for Napsa.

The result keeps Dynamos firmly in the title conversation, lifting them to 38 points from 18 matches  just one behind leaders Red Arrows FC, albeit with games in hand. For Napsa, the defeat leaves them 14th on 20 points, still hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.

Post-match, Dynamos officials praised the team’s clinical finishing, while Napsa’s camp acknowledged defensive lapses at crucial moments.

Green Eagles 2–1 FC MUZA (Musanza Derby)

In the second installment of the Musanza Derby, Green Eagles FC claimed bragging rights with a 2–1 victory over FC MUZA. Derrick Bulaya struck the only brace of the weekend, while Kondwani M’hango responded for MUZA.

The win moves Eagles to 29 points in 7th position, consolidating their mid-table stability. MUZA remain 8th on 28 points, their inconsistency preventing a stronger push toward the top six.

Coaches from both sides emphasized the derby’s intensity, with Eagles crediting tactical discipline in the second half.

Nchanga Rangers 2–1 Red Arrows

Nchanga Rangers FC produced one of the headline results of the round, defeating league leaders Red Arrows 2–1 at Nchanga Stadium. Mwiza Siwale and Christopher Itaka scored for Rangers, while Albert Kangwanda netted his ninth goal of the season for Arrows.

Rangers climb to 37 points in third, tightening the title race, while Arrows remain top on 39 points but with pressure mounting from Dynamos and Rangers.

Arrows’ technical bench admitted lapses in concentration, while Rangers celebrated what they described as a statement performance.

Nkana FC 0–1 Kabwe Warriors

Kabwe Warriors FC deepened Nkana FC’s struggles with a 1–0 victory at home. Field Kandela scored his first goal of the season to secure three points.

Nkana sit 12th with 25 points, while Warriors move to 33 points in sixth, keeping continental ambitions alive. Nkana coach Mwenya Chipepo did not hide his disappointment:
“We are disappointed. Losing two games in a row, especially at home, is not good. Everyone is unhappy.”

Zesco United 1–2 Mufulira Wanderers

Mufulira Wanderers FC stunned Zesco United FC at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, winning 2–1 through Joseph Tembwe and John Foloko. Amine Hiver scored for Zesco.

Mines United 1–1 Green Buffaloes

At Railway Stadium, Mines United FC and Green Buffaloes FC shared spoils in a 1–1 draw. Martin Njobvu opened for Buffaloes before Peter Banda equalised.

Kansanshi Dynamos 1–1 Mutondo Stars

Kansanshi Dynamos FC and Mutondo Stars FC played to a 1–1 draw at Independence Stadium. Joseph Kiala gave Mutondo the lead, but Kalonji Mwepu responded almost immediately.

Coach Mohamed Fathi reflected:
“We didn’t start well and didn’t shoot enough in the first half. In the second half we improved and equalised quickly. We pushed forward to try and win but missed a big chance. Now we focus on improving our attack for the next game.”

Kansanshi move to 22 points (13th), while Mutondo sit 16th with 18 points.

With 21 goals scored and several decisive results recorded, the MTN Super League has entered its most volatile phase. The fight for the title and the battle for survival are only just beginning.
