The Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team has vowed to remain fully focused ahead of Saturday’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo despite carrying a commanding 5-0 aggregate advantage into the match.
The Copper Princesses produced a dominant performance in the first leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, putting one foot in the next round of qualification.
However, head coach Carol Kanyemba insists her side will not take anything for granted as they look to finish the job in Lubumbashi.
Kanyemba Calls for Maximum Concentration
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Kanyemba warned her players against complacency despite the healthy lead.
The coach believes DR Congo remains a dangerous side capable of causing problems if Zambia loses focus.
“Despite the advantage we have, the players will be psyched not to underestimate our opponents,” Kanyemba said.
She stressed that the Congolese side could come into the match determined to overturn the first-leg result and that Zambia must be prepared for a tough challenge.
High-Tempo Approach Planned
Kanyemba revealed that her team will maintain an aggressive approach rather than simply defending their advantage.
The Copper Princesses coach said Zambia intends to play with intensity, focus, and discipline throughout the match.
“We will strive to play a high-tempo game backed with focus and endurance to contain our opponents.”
The strategy reflects Zambia’s determination to maintain their attacking identity while ensuring they remain defensively solid.
Captain Mubanga Focused on More Goals
Team captain Taonga Mubanga echoed her coach’s sentiments, insisting the players have already moved on from the first-leg victory.
The skipper said the squad remains fully focused on delivering another strong performance in Lubumbashi.
“We have put the 5-0 win behind us and are focused on scoring more goals in the reverse fixture.”
Her comments highlight the confidence and hunger within the squad as they continue chasing qualification.
World Cup Dream Within Reach
The Copper Princesses are aiming to secure a place in the third qualifying round and move one step closer to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026.
Zambia has qualified for the previous two editions of the tournament and is hoping to make it three consecutive appearances on the global stage.
The winner of the tie between Zambia and DR Congo will face either Ethiopia or Burundi in the next round of qualifying.
Conclusion
While the Copper Princesses hold a commanding advantage, coach Carol Kanyemba and captain Taonga Mubanga have made it clear that there will be no room for complacency in Lubumbashi.
With a place in the next qualifying round at stake and the dream of a third consecutive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance alive, Zambia will be determined to complete the task professionally against DR Congo.
