Green Eagles Settle at NASDEC as New Home for 2024/25 Season
Zambian Women’s Super League side Green Eagles have chosen the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) as their new home ground for the upcoming 2024/25 season. This move makes them the second team in the league’s history to use NASDEC as their base, following The Elites Ladies Football Club, who will play their home matches at Woodlands Stadium this season.
Last season, the Green Eagles enjoyed their best campaign to date, finishing fourth in the league standings. Under the guidance of head coach Albert Mphande, the team amassed 57 points, securing 16 wins, nine draws, and nine losses. Mphande, who was coaching a women’s team for the first time, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“Last season was the first time I coached a women’s team,” Mphande shared. “Our target was to finish in the top four, and we managed to do so, but it was not easy.”
Mphande, a former Nkwazi Football Club coach, has also hinted at the club’s ambition to challenge the dominance of Green Buffaloes, who won the 2023/24 Women’s Super League title without losing a match. The Green Buffaloes are currently in Lilongwe, Malawi, competing in the COSAFA-CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers.
“I would like to congratulate the players for a job well done because adopting these tactics, formations, and the technical bench’s philosophy requires effort. We did it, but we have to add an extra mile by working even harder to reach our targets for next season,” Mphande said.
Aiming Higher: Green Eagles Ready for the Challenge
The Green Eagles’ successful fourth place finish last season has set the stage for even greater aspirations in the upcoming campaign. With the team’s relocation to NASDEC, they aim to strengthen their position and compete fiercely at the top of the table.
The Majestic Eagles will kick off their Super League campaign with a military derby against the Green Buffaloes. However, they will have to wait a little longer for the highly anticipated clash, as the Buffaloes are currently away for the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
