Florence Mwila Leaves ZANACO Ladies
ZANACO Football Club has officially announced the departure of ZANACO Ladies head coach Florence Mwila, bringing to an end a successful chapter in the club’s women’s football history.
Mwila, who has led the team since its formation on 9 April 2021, played a pivotal role in establishing the club’s women’s football programme and transforming it into one of Zambia’s competitive sides.
During her tenure, she guided ZANACO Ladies from the FAZ Women’s Super League Lusaka Province to promotion into the FAZ Women’s Super League, laying a strong foundation for the club’s continued growth and development.
Beyond her club achievements, Mwila also made a significant impact with the Copper Queens as assistant coach under the late Bruce Mwape. She was part of the technical bench that guided Zambia to a historic bronze medal at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, securing the country’s first-ever qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. She also helped the team qualify for and compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
ZANACO praised Mwila for her professionalism, dedication and leadership, noting that her influence extended beyond results on the pitch by helping build a culture of excellence, teamwork and ambition within the club.
In a statement, the club expressed gratitude to the coach for her exceptional service and invaluable contribution to the growth of ZANACO Ladies.
“As she embarks on the next chapter of her coaching career, we wish Coach Florence Mwila every success in her future endeavours. Her legacy will forever remain part of the proud history of ZANACO Football Club, and she leaves with our deepest gratitude and respect,” the club said.
Mwila departs as one of the most respected figures in Zambian women’s football, having played a key role in the rise of both ZANACO Ladies and the Copper Queens on the continental and global stage.
