Zambian football is mourning the sudden passing of former Nkana FC and Konkola Blades defender Bob Chansa, who died on Tuesday morning in Chililabombwe after a short illness, as confirmed by Nkana Football Club.
Chansa, who last featured in the ZPL National League with Konkola Blades during the 2024/25 season, played a pivotal role in helping the club secure promotion to the MTN Super League. He had parted ways with the Sharp Razor earlier this month following the expiry of his contract.
In an official statement released on Facebook, Nkana FC expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former player.
“Nkana Football Club is saddened by the unexpected death of our former defender, Bob Chansa, who passed away this morning in Chililabombwe after a short illness,” the club said.
“Chansa joined Nkana in 2021 and was on the books of Konkola Blades during the 2024/25 Season.”
“Our deepest sympathies go out to Chansa’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic loss. As we honour his lasting impact on the sport of football, we cherish the legacy he has left behind.”
Chansa’s journey through Zambian football included notable stints with Kansanshi Dynamos, before joining Nkana in 2021 where he featured in the MTN Super League. He later moved to Konkola Blades and became instrumental in their National League campaign, helping the Chililabombwe side finish top and gain promotion.
At the time of his death, Chansa was a free agent. He was highly regarded for his discipline, defensive awareness, and commitment on the pitch. His death comes at a time when many had expected him to join a new club ahead of the 2025/26 season.
His contribution to both Nkana and Konkola Blades, especially during crucial league campaigns, will not be forgotten by teammates, coaches, and supporters who admired his leadership and consistency at the back.
